Holovis unveiled a new four metre dome training environment, accredited by the UK Joint Air Land Organisation (JALO) at ITEC 2018.

Working in conjunction with Bohemia Interactive and Nautilus International Risk Consultants, the dome has been accredited for Type 1, 2 and 3 controls, night CAS, laser operations, low level, bomb on co-ordinate, Fixed Wing/Rotary Wing and Video Downlink Link – all in accordance with the JTAC Currency Requirements Table.

Within this fully accredited system, the JTAC can conduct six out of their 12 mandatory controls in the simulator. With the ever-increasing requirement for a JTAC to train within a Fire Support Team, the size and clarity offered will allow a full FST to train together, simulating their jobs that they would do on the battlefield to conduct complex Joint Fires missions in a safe but realistic manner.

Target correlation for the JTAC and the pilot has been enhanced through the use of Nautilus emulated form fit function JTAC equipment including the LF28 Laser Target Designator, PLRF25 Laser Range Finders and an IZLID Ultra pointer for night Close Air Support. Harris radios and downlink receivers further excel the realism, with familiar equipment enabling a true ‘train as you fight’ environment.

With Holovis’ audio and visual expertise, Bohemia’s VBS3, SimCentric’s VBS Fires FST software and Nautilus’ JTAC expertise, emulation equipment and accredited simulation pilots, we were able to produce a fully accredited system in a short space of time. The role of the JTAC is one of the most important jobs on the battlefield, controlling numerous jets and helicopters, de-conflicting mortar, and gun lines, all in a safe manner, inherently in very close contact with the enemy. I have no doubts that a JTAC operating on their own in this dome, or part of a Fire Support Team, will benefit enormously.

Holovis’s proprietary Pix-control software brings a further unique proposition to the simulation market. This provides auto alignment of the projected images across the complex dome surface, designed for ease of customer operation with remote access capability for the Holovis team of global engineers.
